About the Event

⦿ Venue: ‘The Orchard’ (opposite the University of Canterbury)

⦿ Limited to 5 people

Content: Mastering the Media Landscape – how to become the go-to expert

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of media outlets globally looking for content to

fill their online and offline pages, tv shows, YouTube channels, webinars, podcasts

and the other media they use to reach their audiences. They’re in the business of

connecting with their audiences – but they need you to bring your stories and

insights, experience and expertise to give them content their audiences will want to

view.

That’s a huge opportunity for coaches who have clearly defined messages, and can

deliver insightful and engaging stories in their area of expertise to become valuable

and even indispensable for media.

In this 3-hour workshop we’ll master:

Crafting your signature message – clarify your expert positioning, write a niche

narrative (think elevator pitch) and your unique media angle (why you’re special)

Building your expert bio and media kit – what the media want to see, how to write

it and stand out, in writing, photos and video.

Pitching yourself to media outlets – the do’s and don’ts of media releasing, and

identifying when and how to approach media with your stories

This workshop will get coaches on the journey to becoming masters of the media,

positioning themselves as credible, trusted experts, opening the door to regular free

publicity and promotion through media channels, locally, national and internationally.

About Grant

Growing up I wanted to be an architect, but at university I discovered a fascination for story telling and majored in History. I started sharing stories on television, when CTV (Canterbury Television) launched in 1991. While presenting TV shows I developed a career as a public relations and marketing consultant, applying my ability to tell a good story to projects ranging from visioning and community consultations, re-branding and product launches, to writing annual reports, feature articles, and copy for advertising, websites and printed collateral. These days I balance writing communications and marketing plans, and text for printed materials, with writing scripts and producing videos for websites and social media. Aerial video and live streaming are taking storytelling to the extreme and providing new challenges, though I still enjoy writing articles, newsletters and books.
